# Trace a payout

> The recipient says a payout never arrived. Copy the bank or blockchain reference from the dashboard so the receiving bank can find it.

Once MoonPay Enterprise sends a payout, the transaction carries the reference the receiving bank or blockchain uses to find it. Give that reference to the recipient and have them take it to their bank.

### 1. Open the transaction

Open **Customers**, click the customer, then **View all transactions**. Click the payout to open **Payment Details**.

### 2. Check the status

| Status | What it means |
| - | - |
| **Reviewing Funds** or **Exchanging Funds** | The payout has not been sent yet, so there is no reference. See [Transaction in Reviewing Funds](https://dev.enterprise.moonpay.com/reviewing-funds.md) |
| **Processing Payout** | MoonPay Enterprise has sent the funds to the bank or blockchain. Delivery now depends on the rail. See [Settlement times](https://dev.enterprise.moonpay.com/transaction-status.md#settlement-times-by-payment-method) |
| **Completed** | The payout was handed off to the destination. A return from the recipient's bank shows here until MoonPay Enterprise records it, then the status changes to **Failed** |
| **Failed** | The payout could not be made, or the recipient's bank returned it. See [Rejected or failed transaction](https://dev.enterprise.moonpay.com/rejected-transactions.md) |

### 3. Copy the reference

Once the payout is sent, **Main Information** shows its references, each with a copy button. Only the references the rail produces appear.

| ACH | **ACH Trace Number**, **ACH Reference** |

| Crypto | **Transaction Hash** |

### 4. Send the recipient to their bank

Ask the recipient to give the reference to their bank. For a crypto payout, the **Transaction Hash** shows the transfer on a block explorer.

If the payout is **Completed**, the settlement window has passed, and the receiving bank still can't find it with the reference, contact [support](https://dev.enterprise.moonpay.com/support.md) with the transaction ID and the reference.

## Do it over the API

`GET /api/autoramp-transactions/ids?ids={transaction_id}` returns the same references:

* `payment_tracking`: `sepa_payment_reference`, `uetr`, `swift_payment_reference`, `imad`, `omad`, `wire_message`, `ach_trace_number`, `ach_payment_reference`, `fps_payment_reference`. The fields appear once the payout is sent, during `PayoutInProgress`, and stay while the transaction is `Completed`. Only the fields the rail produces are set.
* `payout_crypto_transaction.transaction_hash` for a crypto payout.

Subscribe to the `transaction_status` [webhook](https://dev.enterprise.moonpay.com/webhooks.md) to know when the payout is sent, then fetch the transaction for its references.
