# Proof of Address

> When proof of address (POA) is required, accepted documents, and criteria.

## When it's required

At Tier 1, the region the customer resides in decides whether they are asked for a document.

| Region | When it's required |
| - | - |
| USA | Only when the ID document is a passport or a residence permit, was not issued by the US, its state does not match the address the customer gave, or the document or device IP country is a high-risk or prohibited jurisdiction. A US driver's license or state ID, from a US IP, with a matching state, needs nothing. |
| EEA | Only when the ID document country is outside the EU/EEA, or the device IP country is a high-risk or prohibited jurisdiction. |
| UK | Only when the ID document country differs from the residence country, a residence permit lacks or mismatches address data, or the IP country is a high-risk jurisdiction. |
| Rest of world | Always, including Australia. Not required in Brazil, Mexico and Colombia when public data confirms the address from the customer's national number: CPF (Brazil), CURP or RFC (Mexico), Cédula (Colombia). Requested only when no match is found. |

Proof of address is always required at Tier 2, for high-risk customers, and as part of the Enhanced Due Diligence set when a customer hits a spending limit. See [Limits and minimums](/limits-and-minimum) for the EDD triggers and the 24-hour window to submit documents.

## Accepted documents

Identity documents are accepted as proof of address: passport, national ID card, residence permit, or driver's license. The 3-month rule does not apply to them.

All other documents must be issued within the **last 3 months**:

* Utility bill (electricity, gas, internet, landline, water)
* Bank or credit card statement
* Tax invoice
* Mortgage statement
* Certificate of voter registration
* Signed, current lease agreement
* Employer's certificate (payslips not accepted)
* Other government-issued residential document

## Criteria

* Shows the customer's full name and complete residential address (no PO boxes)
* Shows the issuing entity's name and issue date
* Entire document visible, as an original photo or PDF

Not accepted: screenshots, spreadsheets, medical bills, insurance statements. A payslip is not accepted for POA, but it is accepted for [source of wealth](/source-of-wealth).
